Accentuate Your Outdoors with Low Voltage Outdoor Path Lights

Undeniably, outdoor pathway lights are by far the most popular and most common form of landscape lighting in modern gardens. This is primarily because people require walkways to be safe at night, but also because we want to illuminate our gardens in a special kind of way. With outdoor pathway lights being available in so many different shapes and sizes, their uses are virtually endless.
Ornamental outdoor path lights are best used to accentuate landscape features. You can create a more inviting atmosphere with path lights. Not only that, but you can also add mystery, drama and romance to your landscape using proper shadowing and light focus effects.
Low voltage outdoor path lights can also be used as area lights. Distributing enough path lighting to a large area will provide a beautifully-designed area light. Why stick with plain and boring lighting plans when you can get something that complements the overall look of your home?
By using path lights with a downward peak, one can use them to illuminate not only a walkway, but also steps and curbing. Furthermore, providing one has a little imagination, they can be used to create the most intriguing symmetrical patters in the garden, while at the same time providing safer navigation during the hours of darkness.
When holding large parties, guests, of course, may not want to sit and stay in a specific area but would rather enjoy exploring your gardens. Outdoor lighting then becomes a necessity not just to enhance the beauty of the landscape but to illuminate walkway paths as well.
Beautifully crafted pathway lights should not only be used in order to compliment ones property, but also to improve security and safety at night for those who walk around in the garden. Because of this, outdoor pathway lights should be of the highest quality so that they are able to withstand wind, rain, and even storms. Additionally, considering that pathway lights are almost always placed in areas of human traffic, it is essential to only use lights of a low voltage in order to ensure the safety of everyone.
The bottom line is; apart from being ornamental, outdoor pathway lights also need to be practical and safe.
The Secrets To Garden Lighting

Established lighting design theory revolves around the idea of identifying and mixing together four main lighting types, namely decorative, accent, ambient and task lighting. And out in the garden we find that things are in principle little different for designing effective outdoor lighting. However, there are some important differences to be aware of before we look further at each of these lighting types.
First there are significant differences in scale. Inside rooms have walls and ceilings that define their extent and they are actually quite compact when set against even the smallest garden. Outside the ceiling is literally sky high and such boundaries as there are tend to be quite low and pretty much disappear altogether at night.
This brings both opportunities and challenges for outdoor lighting design. Most indoor lighting is reflected from ceilings and walls and contributes to the overall ambient light. Outside however, lights appear to us as zones of brightness that, rather than spilling onto surrounding areas instead create a contrast, making then seem even darker.
This absence of ambient light from reflections renders many interior lighting techniques unusable outdoors. However, it also makes a number of interesting effects possible by utilising the high contrast between light and dark; it is not uncommon to find night time gardens that have been designed to appear completely different to their day time counterpart through the simple expedient of highlighting some features and disguising others.
Then there is the matter of how to utilise your outdoor areas. Conventional garden design principles teach the concept of treating the garden as if it were just another room (or an extra set of rooms) in the home, and this treatment thus also applies to the lighting.
You almost certainly employ different lighting arrangements for various rooms based on their intended use, so bedroom lighting would be quite distinct from kitchen lighting for example. So if you planned on using your deck as a place to entertain then it would be prudent to install lighting suitable for that purpose. Likewise, you would (presumably) use quite different lighting for a pathway or to illuminate say a water feature – different purpose.
Which brings us then to the four main lighting types and their application outdoors.
Whereas indoors ambient lighting mainly provides a platform for the other types of lighting, in the garden this really isn’t possible without the confines of reflective walls. Accordingly ambient light quite frequently takes centre stage outdoors; many solar powered garden lamps provide good examples of the sort of soft, diffuse light that can be used to introduce a pleasant and understated glow to any part of the garden.
Accent lighting on the other hand is all about highlighting key features and picking out detail and color. It is used to lead the eye around the garden and commonly relies on spot lights and these days LED lights.
Decorative lighting serves much the same overall purpose as accent lighting in that it is there simply to look attractive and catch your eye; the principal difference is that decorative lighting doesn’t illuminate anything else – it is itself the focal point. And like accent lighting, most modern decorative lighting is in fact LED based.
Outdoor task lighting is generally less to do with providing light sufficient for reading and so on and more concerned with enabling people to see where they’re going. It’s found in path lighting or set into a deck and around BBQ areas.
As with interior lighting design, the key to success with garden lighting is to blend all four types all lighting, preferably also with the option to switch task lighting on and off independently. If you rely solely on ambient light your garden will appear amorphous and slightly gloomy; conversely all accent lighting will make it look over dramatic and a bit harsh, and if only decorative lights are used the effect is likely be appear uncoordinated and somewhat chintzy.
An easy way to ensure a good mix of lighting types in your garden is to buy different types of light fitting. So have a number of different styles of spotlight (varying in brightness and beam angle) plus say some all purpose lanterns and spikes. Mix in a few coloured lights and combine both solar and low voltage mains lighting. LED garden lights are commonly found in both these formats and complement each other very well.

Put it under the sun for about 3-5 days, then carefully remove from the mold. Cover it up again with plastic bag and allow it to cure for about a month. That’s it.

Organic Rose Gardening – Discover the Secrets

Organic rose gardening is becoming progressively popular among rose enthusiasts. Roses have been grown by individuals for 1000s of years before artificial chemical substances were ever invented and hence these chemicals do not have to be depended on to have a exquisite garden of roses. By maintaining an organic yard you are able to increase the longevity of your roses and keep your family, pets, and wildlife away from damaging chemical substances.
The earth, plants, and wildlife has been about millions of years doing ok on its own without the support of mankind. It is simply when mankind gets it in his head that he can do better than nature when matters begin getting out of balance. Ordinarily, plants draw foods and water from their roots. The leaves of the plant go through photosynthesis which is the process of utilizing water and sunlight to make energy. Soil by nature contains bacteria, fungus, nematodes, worms, plus other organisms. These organisms breakdown dead stuffs that enrich the soil. Employing chemical substance fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides destroy natural land organisms and disrupt the natural relationship of the roses and the soil. Without helpful bacteria to protect rose plant roots, damaging fungi can move in and harm the plant. Plus, it is viable to get your roses dependent on chemical fertilizers. The more you use chemical to liven up your roses, the more the roses will depend on the chemicals.
Growing roses organically is inexpensive and simple. You are simply leaving out the purchase of chemical substance plant foods and pest control. You are still able to feed the land and tend for your roses without these things. Some soil might call for a little assistance. The optimal means to do that is to work compost into the soil of a new garden or as a top dressing or mulch in an existing garden. Anyone can begin a compost pile in their yard by adding decaying plant clippings, animal waste, grass cuttings, dry leaves, and even kitchen refuse like fruit peels or fish heads to a pile and allowing it to decompose over time. There are several different, simple ways to create a compost pile in a container or in a pile but most ways require you to stir the pile to ascertain that all of the compost is decaying properly.
Organic gardening likewise means staying away from most types of pest control. But, that does not mean that you are wholly powerless against pests. Sometimes pesticides not just kill the insects that are causing damage to your plants, they also kill the insects that assist you plants by consuming harmful ones. Lady bugs and many wasps are considered positive for preying on insect pests. Birds will consume grubs, and even frogs, lizards, and snakes help to prevent pest problems. If a pesticide is truly required, rose plant possessors can buy organic or natural pesticides that are really effective and are less poisonous. Plus, they can target a particular problem by killing that type of pest insect and not much else.
The goal in rose planting is to develop the biggest blossoms, the most fragrant, and over all the most exquisite roses around. This project can be completed organically by investing just as much time and effort into your garden as you would put money into chemical substance plant foods and toxic pesticides.
What You Should Know About Commercial Vacuum Cleaners
July 26, 2009 by Pier Supore
In the past, cleaning the floor was a problematic task that only the most adventurous would jump into. This is because there used to be very little in the way of machines for cleaning. You had to use a broom to sweep the floor. Rugs had to be taken outside and shaken. All the dirt you found had to be manually cleaned up with a dust pan. A change in breeze could make all your efforts wasted by blowing all the dirt back around, so you had to start all over again, but this time with the windows closed for sure!
Fortunately, vacuum cleaners were invented. You can choose between the regular vacuum cleaners that are used at home or the commercial vacuum cleaners that are usually used at shopping malls or factories and other big business structures.
This article will take a look at the latter type of model, the one used mostly for business use. Let’s take a closer look at the details relevant to this type of cleaning product.
1. Since commercial vacuum cleaners are used in larger areas, their motors are larger and more powerful than ordinary vacuum cleaners used at home. Because of this, they are heavier and cost more than their ordinary counterparts.
2. These models are used in places in which lots of dirt and grime build up, such as factories and warehouses involved in the production of chemicals or toxic substances. This could create a hazard for the cleaners responsible for the area. The solution was to add what’s called a HEPA filter to the units. This makes it safer for the cleaning crew and does a better job at cleaning in general.
3. Make sure to have the right equipment for the job. This means having a backpack commercial vacuum cleaner to reach those hard spots, versus having a typical upright cleaner just for the walkable areas. For wide open spaces, use a model that has an extra wide interface to get the job done faster.
Have a Great Lawn and Save Water

Now that the warmer months are here everyone is starting to water their lawns more and more to keep them from turning brown. I do it as well! But unfortunately there are a lot of people that waste too much water. Let’s go over a few things you can do to stop wasting water and still keep your lawn green.
#1 – Fix Broken Sprinkler Heads
While I’m sure the kids love it, those broken sprinkler heads that shoot 30 feet into the air are a huge water waster. As soon as you know you have a broken sprinkler get a replacement part and get it fixed. Thankfully they’re pretty cheap.
#2 -Morning Watering
There is definitely an optimal time to water your lawn. That time is in the morning between the hours of 5 and 10 am. If you water your lawn in the afternoon you’re going to lose too much water to evaporation. If you water at night or in the evening your lawn will stay wet longer and you’ll have fungus problems. So it’s always best to water in the morning.
#3 – Water Infrequently
If you water your lawn every day you’re going to have a lawn with a very shallow root system. It’s best to water your lawn infrequently and even send it into drought mode from time to time so that the grass will develop a deeper, stronger root system.
#4 – Don’t Water When it’s Raining
Rain is nature’s natural lawn sprinkler system. A really easy way to waste water is to let your sprinkler system run when it’s raining or soon after it has rained. Let your system have a break and let nature do its thing!
The summer months are great for a lot of things, and one of them is nice green lawns. But thankfully you can have a great looking lawn without over watering or in other ways wasting water. I hope these tips help you to have a great looking lawn for less!

Container Gardens: Some Great Ideas
July 23, 2009 by Dave Truman
People who are working with small sized gardens often find themselves at a loss when it comes to what to do with their small space. By applying some well thought out ideas to your small garden, however, you can make it something beautiful. Remember that small spaces can still include lots of variety in both types of plants and colors.
Use Containers
Using containers is a great way to maximize the limited space you have in your garden. Flower pots might sound boring or dull at first, but the reality is that they can be used to create a beautiful garden dcor.
The containers you use in your garden certainly do not have to all be the same exact color. In fact, painting the pots you use a variety of complimentary colors and varying the size and shape of the pots will create quite a delightful effect in your garden. You can use all of the space you have by putting your plants in hanging planters as well.
Choosing the Correct Container
In order to choose the proper container for your garden, you will need to think about what kind of plants you plan on using in the container. One essential feature of any container used for any plant is a drainage system that will prevent the plants roots from rotting.
Ceramic planters should have four or five drainage holes. Plastic and steel containers can have holes added to them with a drill.
You can even turn ordinary objects into containers for your garden. Whether it’s an old trough, watering can, wellington boots or tin cans spruced up with paint. Your gardening ideas are limited only by your imagination. Line the bottom of baskets that you want to turn into containers with sphagnum moss or coco fiber, this will allow water to drain and keep the soil in your container.
