For a bathroom counter top the most important thing to look for is its appearance and looks. The look and feeling of the bathroom counter top should be such that it increases the beauty of your bathroom unlike kitchen counter tops in which functionality is very important deciding factor.
Aside from appearance, one should also consider price, maintenance and compatibility when investing in a bathroom counter top. In below mentioned paragraphs we will talk about different material choices for making a bathroom counter top.
Choosing a good material for your bathroom counter top can set the tone of the room. Stainless-steel counter tops needs low maintenance and look fabulous in a modern bathroom. Glass can also be striking and modern choice but it is quite challenging to keep it free of fingerprints. One other good alternative is to use glass tiles.
Mostly granite, quartz, tiles and solid surface are used to make the bathroom counter tops. We will now talk about their features and ways of maintaining them.
Granite is long lasting, stain-resistant and a beautiful choice to be used as counter tops. Granite is gaining popularity to be used as a material for bathroom counter tops. It is very easy to maintain among all the natural stone materials. However, it is relatively expensive but it provides an elegant look that is incomparable. These counter tops should be cleaned with warm water and a liquid detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners as they could scratch the surface and dull the finish.
Manufactured quartz looks little bit like limestone, granite or marble but it is more resistant to scratches and stains. It is made up of 90% quartz particles. Quartz is the best material to use if you are considering a counter top with a specialized edging. Counter tops made of it are durable, easy to clean and doesn’t require sealing.
Tile is also a good choice for bathroom counter tops. However, cleaning of grout is a big issue in tiles. You can get tiles in any size as per your need. If you will go for bigger tiles then your work will be done in small number of tiles. Prefer to purchase colored grout as dirt will be less highlighted in them. Grout lines in tiles require more maintenance. You can use any detergent for cleaning the tiles.
Solid surface is also a good option to be used as bathroom counter tops. They mainly look like natural stone. These counter tops are good in resisting mold or mildew. The surface in these counter tops is nonporous that can be easily cleaned.

The disappointing part of having a flower garden is when they go out of bloom. Fortunately, there are many flowers that bloom all year long or last a long time, depending on the region and climate. Most gardeners plant perennials because they bloom each year, however, when properly taken care of, they can stay in bloom for a long time. The key to getting your Barrie Flowers to stay in bloom for an extended period of time is to plant hardy plants so they last as late as possible into the fall. Carpet And Upholstery Cleaning.

There are many different ways which you can take when approaching a carpet and upholstery cleaning task. The reason you are cleaning (general clean, removal of stains etc) as well as the kind of fabric you are cleaning both determine the kind of method you will choose. Whether you are going to use a professional carpet cleaning service or you are planning on doing it yourself, here are some basic guidelines to follow to make sure you don’t damage the material.
Methods of cleaning carpets
Other than the countless ‘housewives remedies’, there are generally five recognized methods of cleaning carpets. Steam (also known as hot water extraction), shampoo, bonnet or quick dry and dry absorbent compound cleaning.
Steam cleaning (a.k.a hot water extraction) is probably the most popular of all the different methods but not always the best since the drying time, depending on the material, can be as long as 12 hours. A high-powered pump sprays a cleaning fluid into the carpet which is then sucked out immediately by a strong vacuum.
You can get various different types of shampoo cleaning machines. Many look like an upright vacuum cleaner except that they have two nylon bristle brushes as attachments underneath and a tank which contains the cleaning fluid. The process is similar to that of somebody sitting on their knees with a brush as the carpet is scrubbed with the nylon brushes which loosens the dirt which is then vacuumed when the carpet is dry which, the same as the hot water extraction or steam method, is about 12 hours.
The quick dry or bonnet method might seem to be the same as shampooing the carpet, in fact the machinery is very similar. Instead of the two or three nylon brushes, the machine has a couple of highly absorbent buffing pads. A special quick dry cleaning solution is firstly distributed over the carpet and the machine then buffs the carpet clean by absorbing the solution as well as the dirt. It only takes about an hour to dry so this method is a must for high traffic areas.
Dry Foam cleaning is a mixture between shampooing and hot water extraction. Foam is introduced to the carpet by a machine with rolling brushes and the carpet is then vacuumed to remove the dirt. The drying time, dependent on the carpet type of course, is between an hour or two.
Dry absorbent compound is a powder which contains solvents and detergents, which are spread lightly on the carpet. You, or the professional you hire, uses a machine which scrubs the mixture into the carpet fibers and the carpet is left to stand for a bit. After a little wait, the vacuum cleaner is then used to suck up the compound (which has by now absorbed all the dirt) as a result the carpet stays as dry as it was when you started. This is probably the best method to use if you have thick carpets which can go moldy underneath if they stay wet for too long.
How to clean upholstery
The determining factor when choosing the best method to clean upholstery is the type of material to be cleaned. Some, for example, can only be dry cleaned (velvets and silks) and the cleaning is best left to a professional while other stronger materials can be wet cleaned. The steam method or hot extraction method is the same as what you would use on your carpets. The only difference is that the nozzle is a smaller, hand held version. You can also hand shampoo most fabrics but it is advisable to shake the cleaning solution and only apply the foam using a damp sponge.
Recognising Upholstery
When it comes to cleaning fabric furniture, most people don’t know what the best method to use should be. Search for the manufacturer’s instructions label. You should find it lurking at the bottom of one or all of the cushions and this should contain the manufactures suggestions, warnings and instructions. Apart from all the other images and text, look out for one of three codes: ‘S’, ‘W’ or ‘SW’. ‘W’ indicates that wet cleaning is permissible while the ‘S’ states that the material should only be dry cleaned. ‘SW’ indicates that the material is suitable for both wet and dry cleaning methods.
Rocks Used For Garden Gravel

For a wonderful selection of garden gravel you may need to visit a gravel pit or specialty stone outlet for your needs. Of course, your local home and garden centers may have just what you are looking for. After all, it is simply crushed rock.
Use your imagination to design fabulous walkways and shapes around your gardens using the gravel. They come in all colors, from bright white marble, to reds and greens. You will find pink granite and gray granite with black flecks. There is also pea gravel and pebbles of every color. You should be able to come up with many ideas, based on the colors you see.
Volcanic rock is also very popular, and it comes generally in red or black, and it might be shiny or maybe not. It is also relatively inexpensive. Prices will vary with all of these gravels, so do some shopping at various places.
Your gravel, pebbles, which are smoother, and other types of landscape rock will remain weed free if you cover the weeds with cloth or plastic. Over this weed blocking cloth or black plastic, place your gravel or other rock. This will smother the weeds underneath, and they will not grow through your gravel to ruin your garden design.
Gravel is also used in dry landscaping, and a lot in desert landscaping. Also, in Zen gardening, the gravel is raked into patterns to depict waves or rippling like water. They are truly works of art.
You can order a truckload of garden gravel from your local gravel pit or stone quarry, or just buy a few decorative bags. It will depend on the area you intend to cover. This area can be as huge as your entire front yard or splashes of color amongst the roses.
The Basics of Hydroponic Cultivation
March 8, 2010 by Sarah Duke

Gardening hydroponically isn’t anything like cultivating a traditional garden outside. The truth is, you’re making use of an entirely different medium than traditional soil, so it’s critical that you learn the proper techniques to provide the essentials of life to your plants. Read on for some tips on hydroponic cultivation that will reward you with flourishing plants.
When it comes to hydroponic gardening, water is likely the key factor in the success of a garden, because it is the carrier of nutrients along with the medium wherein your plants develop. You will have to ensure that your garden has ample amounts of water supplied to it daily, otherwise the roots will dry out and your plants will die.
But plain old water won’t be enough. You have to maintain the proper balance between salinity, alkalinity and nutrient content. This can be accomplished through using nutrient mixes that are specifically formulated for gardening hydroponically. The nutrients you choose will be dependent upon the varieties of plants you’re growing in addition to their stage in the growth cycle. You might have to experiment with the ratios and feeding times so as to get optimal results.
Additionally, remember that some plants can alter the water quality, which may result in fungal and bacterial infectivity. You may have to make use of filtration and chlorination to eliminate the risk of plant infection.
Another essential aspect of hydroponic cultivation is ample lighting. Plants need light so as to flourish, for the production of chlorophyll and for protection from the cold. There are a couple of fundamental ways in which light may be supplied to the plants – natural daylight and artificial lights. As a rule plants require 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight in order to thrive. However, if providing natural daylight to the plants isn’t practical, you may have to set up artificial lights. There are several different types of lights you can choose from, such as HID, incandescent, fluorescent, and halogen.
Moreover, you will want to make certain that your plants are getting enough oxygen, particularly if you are growing plants in an indoor location. In this case, you can provide oxygen to your plants by bubbling air through the water solution.
It’s also important to keep an eye on the temperature. Your plants need an environment that is maintained at approximately 75 degrees F, however this might be lower or higher based on the variety of plants being cultivated along with the time of year.
Even though there’s a good deal to know about hydroponic cultivation, the rewards will be fabulous if you take pleasure in growing flowers, vegetables and other plants throughout the year.

How To Spot And Destroy Vegetable Garden Pests
March 4, 2010 by Kim Archer
Any person who cultivates a vegetable garden will tell you that insects and pests are their main battle. The majority of bugs tend to be more of a nuisance than deliberately damaging, but if you find a garden pest munching on your harvest, you’re not going to be pleased. Here are some of the most frequently found garden pests and strategies to eliminate them.
A corn earworm will assault your corn cobs and devour the kernels. Similarly, a tomato fruitworm eats the interiors of tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Kill them off with an insecticide intended specifically for these pests.
One of the ugliest garden pests may be the tomato hornworm. It is a thick, green and white worm which has a large horn that is similar in appearance to a stinger. It can be killed by pulling it from the plant with your hands protected by gloves, and dunking it in soapy water. As well, you can choose to spray the worm with stomach poison insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis or neem oil.
Another aggravating bug is the beetle, which likes to eat the leaves on your crops. You do need to eradicate them as they are able to do a tremendous amount of harm to a garden. It is easy to either spray them with insecticide or simply pick them out of the vegetation.
Aphids are often found in a vegetable garden as well. Usually, you’ll stumble upon groups of very small bugs in different colors. To get rid of aphids, use insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Cutworms are a type of pest that typically cuts down the plant’s stem close to the bottom. Really the only effective method of overcoming them is by placing a paper collar around the plants.
Snails and slugs can demolish the foliage on your plants, and they will leave behind a slick trail as evidence. You can purchase bait that they will eat and die from, however, you can accomplish the same results with a shallow dish of beer; they’ll be drawn to it and drown.
Those fat white worms which you glimpse in the soil are almost certainly grubs. If grubs attack your crops they start to droop and their growth is going to be stunted. Grubs are often held in check by the addition of milky spore to the soil. Grubs eventually develop into beetles, which you can eliminate by means of stomach poison pesticide.
Thrips like various plants. You’ll be able to tell if they’ve been there by the indiscriminate white scars you see on the vegetation. It is easy to sluice them off by spraying them with a hose, and then apply contact poison onto the plant.
You’ll find borers in vine plants with thick stems including squash and pumpkin. You have to cut them out of the plant so as to eradicate them. You may end up having to uproot and destroy the plant it if you discover a borer near the base of it. You can normally eliminate this sort of garden pest by means of insecticide.
