There is no denial of the fact that beautiful garden is sheer pleasure to observe and utilize. It is a widely held belief that a garden is useful to the children only for one purpose. However, this is not right usually.

One of the most vital reasons to have a garden is to provide your children with a play space. With a garden, you won’t have to send your youngsters to play at the local park. What’s more, you may even encourage them to give up their Nintendo games and simply play outdoors – a fun proposition and also one which enables you to check on them ever so often. You can further boost your garden as a play space by setting up a small sports field there or fixing a basketball net. Your sports field could be designed according to the game your kids enjoy the most if your garden is big enough. It will further encourage your children to play in this space.

You can further take your within to the outside. Standard indoor activities like eating or playing board games can be done equally conveniently outdoors. What’s more, they can be even more pleasant when performed in the garden. Most kids like to eat outside surrounded by the greens but barely get a chance to do so. So , by bringing certain indoor activities outside, you’ll be helping your kid breathe in some desirable fresh air. Accentuate your garden by setting up some good looking terrace furniture. You can further pique your child’s interest by adding little furniture pieces like toad stools or chairs.

Another thing that your garden is totally good for is the parties. It can be simply used for get-together and more so for birthday parties. You can prepare a really pleasant and fun birthday party for your kid in your garden itself. All you need to do is to call out your child’s friends and let them have fun in the garden. Additionally you can arrange your garden as a place for group studies. Sometime having your tea breaks in garden can have a charm of all together a different type. You can serve all the given purposes in your garden simply. For this you simply need to add some tables to your garden and you are all done.

All mums and dads like playing with their kids and there’s no finer place than a garden to do so. Your garden is the ideal space for playing a variety of sports, from Frisbee to badminton. Being nearer to your house means, you can take a break at anytime and run into the house for refreshments between your games. Thus, the garden is a good place to spend time with your children.

So, going by the above mentioned information it is abundantly clear that a garden has plethora of things to offer to you and your kid.

Hydroponic Gardening – For The Environment & Economy

April 28, 2010 by Rudy Luxton

Even small-time hydroponic gardeners can enjoy the advantages and benefits of gardening in an Earth-friendly way.

In traditional gardening, damaging chemicals and pesticides leave much to be desired by Earth-friendly gardeners. There must be a better way of growing plants that can change with the needs of the planet and economy. Hydroponic gardening is enjoying a growing acceptance and has been embraced by individuals and large farms alike. Many people have joined the green movement by starting a hydroponic garden.

Environmentally Friendly & Economically Viable

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, hydroponic gardening can be an environmentally friendly alternative to growing in soil. For all those that share my concern for the environment, this is great news. On top of the economic and environmental benefits of hydroponic gardening, it is easier to rotate crops in this system as opposed to a soil based garden. Gardeners can boost production levels easily with crop rotation as needed based on market factors and seasonal conditions.

Solar Powered Hydroponics

While at the same time you can reduce water consumption and increase yields, you can make an even larger impact by using a solar powered hydroponic system. In most set-ups, the only electric needs are from the grow lights and the water pump. You can already find water pumps with solar cells attached. Or, if you are handy, you can attach a solar cell which would be able to run the pump and your grow lights – effectively reducing your carbon footprint. If that is not enough for you, perhaps installing a solar unit for your entire home is what you need.

Is Hydroponic Gardening Your Only Option?

Most city dwellers do not have the option of growing outside so hydroponic gardening indoors may be the only choice you have. And those who have very limited land will enjoy increased productivity and yield with hydroponic gardening.

For years, hydroponic gardening was criticized for the use of chemical-based, inorganic nutrients and the use of high intensity lighting for growing indoors. Currently, there is explosive growth in the availability of organic nutrients and low-energy grow lighting alternatives such as LED grow lights. Both of these tools will increase production and yield in your hydroponic garden and satisfy the needs of environmentally aware gardeners everywhere.

How To Troubleshoot Low Water Pressure ?

April 27, 2010 by Scott Rodgers

Low water pressure problem is very annoying. If you turn on your water faucet or shower and the water pressure is lower then it means that there could be something wrong in the line.

If you always had low water pressure in your home then it could be because the pipes that were originally installed were half inch pipe rather than one inch pipe. This is the measurement of the pipe diameter and the smaller pipe produces lower water pressure than the larger sized pipe.

If you are planning to build a new home then make sure to install larger sized pipes. The larger sized pipe is more expensive but it is well worth the extra cost. Water from the main has to travel down the pipe and then go through many twists and turns before it reaches your valve. So by that time the pressure has naturally gone down. In such situations, the smaller diameter of the pipe will put more restrictions on the water flow.

The reduction in water pressure could also be caused because of many other reasons. In case the shut off valves are not completely opened then it could also result in low water pressure. So check all the shut off valves in case of low water pressure problem.

You can also check the indoor main water shut off valve. This valve should also be in the full open position. If this is located on or near your main water meter, you should call the water provider or an experienced plumber to open this valve.

In case all the valves are fully opened and the problem of low water pressure still persists then your pipe might be damaged somewhere along the line. Homeowners residing in an earthquake prone area might get the pipe damaged because of a strong earthquake. So get all the pipes inspected for any kind of damage or leaks.

Blockage is also a big reason that causes the reduction in water pressure. Besides blockage, leak could also result into low water pressure and it also adds unused units in your water bill.

Many homeowners do not consider it a big problem and don’t call a plumber for repairing it. However, in order to save both time and money, the problem should be solved as soon as possible because usually this problem turns into a serious problem if left unchecked.

Many people enjoy and collect them because they are much less common than other traditional styles of art. It’s nice to own something that is very interesting and original.

Texture is key in the world of metal wall hangings. There are so many types but the best have a definite texture character about them that makes them unique as you look at one wall sculpture vs another.

Color is also key. Most of these wall sculptures are very bright and full of magnetism. You’ll find that people will have to talk about them whenever you have guests over. Make sure you find an artist that applies a translucent finish over the texture so that you still see the dynamic striations underneath.

Many of these wall art sculptures can work inside or out. Just ask your artist if they can make them to weather harsh conditions. The best coatings are baked on coatings called powder coatings. This type of finish is absolutely amazing and will stand up to whatever mother nature throws at it.

You’ll also see many different sizes in this art genre. Generally, there seem to be more large pieces than small but you can find whatever it is you’re searching for. A large metal wall hanging will transform any area into something truly special.

Look around and figure out what type or style works for you. Do you like those bold abstract shapes full of texture and color? There are no hard and fast rules-just look and find something that speaks to you.

To find these beautiful pieces, just head online and search. You’re going to see many, many options. I would suggest finding a site that is owned by the artist him/herself. You’ll get to know the art and artist so that you’re wall sculpture really speaks to you.

Metal wall hangings will give your decor a sense of style and pizazz! that isn’t often seen. Take a look online and you’ll be surprised at the beauty and uniqueness that can only be offered with metal wall art.

Managing Your Greenhouse Climate

April 25, 2010 by Marie Stevens

Managing the climate of a greenhouse is about providing the plants with the right conditions for growth, flowering and fruiting. What you need to do will therefore depend on the kind of plants you are growing and the stage they have reached in their life cycle Not all plants need exactly the same conditions so the kind of climate will depend on what you plan to grow in you greenhouse. Some will need high temperatures and high humidity in the greenhouse. Others will require a slightly cooler conditions in the greenhouse.

It is often possible to reach a compromise and provide conditions that will suit most of your plants most of the time. You will not be able to provide optimum conditions for all the plants in your greenhouse. But by choosing plants that like similar conditions you will achieve acceptable results. For the amateur greenhouse grower some compromises are necessary. If you are growing commercially that is another matter. A commercial greenhouse must provide an optimum climate for a specific type of plant. Otherwise you will lose money.

Portable greenhouses are less costly than a traditional greenhouse of a similar size. These greenhouses are invaluable and affordable solutions for temporary greenhouse needs. Portable greenhouses are very versatile depending on the size or shape you choose; you can move them around the garden, or set up your larger portable in a small corner.

The idea of a portable greenhouse has actually been around as long as the idea of a basic greenhouse. Portable greenhouses are less complex than permanent ones. These greenhouses are fairly inexpensive, easy to set up, and provide protection from cooler night temperatures and early morning killing frosts.

Ever thought about raising tropical plants? Now you can. Enjoy them indoors during the winter and place them in the greenhouse for a tropical summer. They love the higher temperature and humidity during the summer.

There are all types of Mini Greenhouse Kits. Some are free standing, where others mount to the side of a building such as a Lean-to Greenhouse. You will want to make sure that you have your green house securely anchored down. Guide ropes and stakes usually will take care of any wind problems. Most Greenhouse side walls are designed at the bottom to either be slightly underground, or have the dirt built up against the wall to keep the insects out.

An even smaller version of a portable greenhouse could be called a mini greenhouse. These minis are as diverse in style and design as their larger greenhouse counterparts.

Mini greenhouses are designed to hold just a few plants and can be put almost anywhere. A cold frame mini greenhouse is a small box made of the same material that a normal greenhouse is composed of. If you want to keep just a couple of single plants growing outside all year, these type of mini greenhouses might be a good choice for you. They can be a great choice for beginners looking to try their hand at greenhouse gardening without a large initial investment.

Easy Methods To Establish Microclimates To Help Your Plants Grow

April 23, 2010 by Jason Warner

Many gardeners are in areas where just about anything can grow effortlessly. Just plant the seeds and water it for some weeks, and you will have grown a beautifully lush plant. But when you live somewhere like Colorado, you”ll know very well what its like to have a relatively slim collection of plants that naturally grow. It could be a challenge to facilitate the growth of a sizable variety of plants, especially when the very world you live in seems to be rooting against you.

Some solve this challenge by loading up their plants with just about every sort of chemical and fertilizer available. This usually works, but in my opinion it appears to be kind of unnatural to make use of man made materials to keep your plants alive. Also, if I’m growing fruits or vegetables, I do not feel too comfortable eating something that is entirely made up of chemicals.

A gardening theory I have relied on before to grow various kinds of plants is that of building a ‘microclimate” for each particular plant. This is when you manage the sunlight, shade, moisture, and wind factors for each and every separate plant. It may seem like quite a job, in fact it is. Nevertheless, you can regulate these factors in such a way which the plant feels exactly like it is in the perfect growing conditions. This is achieved by the application of wind barriers, shading umbrellas, more water, or various types or quantities of compost.

When you’re ready to make an effort at creating microclimates, you”ll want to make an in depth plan in advanced. You should begin by obtaining a large shade providing bush or tree which will grow fast and naturally in your town. Just take a look at some undeveloped property and see what can be found there. Almost certainly it grew on its own without any subsequent planting or care. This is exactly what you would like to happen. Generally the growing of just one plant should bring about the growing of another more desired plant.

In case you have a fence within your backyard (you would be amazed at how many families don’t) then you have ample shade to work with. You can start the microclimate process with only the shade from the fence, combined with (perhaps) a screen or large bush to shade your new plant for the other half of the day that the fence doesn’t handle. The fence is also useful for shading against wind for very fragile plants.

Upon having established the shade, be it natural or unnatural, you will have designed a slightly less severe miniature environment. You must remember it is a gradual process, and find a new plant to put in the shade on the other one. Now your choices are a tad bit more open. You don’t have to select a rugged plant similar to the one you did before; now you may select a plant that survives in cooler weather.

In case the plant you want to grow next requires more moisture in the air than your region provides, adding a fountain or small pond could fix this trouble due to the evaporation. You might think you won’t want to waste water on a pond or fountain, but it’s all going toward the betterment of the garden. It’s identical to the watering process, only indirect. Being an added benefit, usually fountains can be aesthetically attractive, including a great addition for your garden.

I am unable to explain every stage of the process, because everyone’s goals and setups are slightly different. But to achieve your ultimate goal, you need to do research on every plant that you intend to have within your garden. Learn everything you possibly can regarding the zone it flourishes in, and ask yourself how you could emulate that zone in your own yard. More often than not you can take control of the environment and recreate whatever you wish. Usually all it requires is some planning and strategy.

Walk Behind Mowing Options

April 21, 2010 by Phil Caxton

If you want a perfectly mowed lawn then you need a lawn mower. Mowers provide the convenience of being able to mow the lawn or the garden well and whenever you wish to. The traditional method of mowing grass can be very taxing, even if it means regular mowing of a smaller piece of land. Different types of lawn mowers are available today and you can select the best one for your mowing needs. For a smaller lawn a smaller lawn mower like the ‘walk behind mower’ is required and for a bigger lawn you can purchase riding mowers which are best suited for mowing larger areas.

Purpose is important:

Knowing the purpose of a lawn mower will enable you to use the most suited one accordingly. Depending on your garden type different tools are available in the garden shop. Specific garden machines are required for specific lawns. It is essential to differentiate between a garden and surrounding terrain and accordingly work different mowers in the area. Consider the blades, engine type and the ‘riding’ and ‘walk behind’ mower types and accordingly purchase the one that is most suitable for your garden area.

Walk-behind mowers are also called push mowers. These mowers are suitable for homeowners who want economical mulching mowers as well as quality products. They have the capacity to ‘bag’ or side discharge and are a great tool for maintaining a good looking lawn. Grass gets cut well and it is easy to use, giving you total control over the machine.

Area of your land matters:

Different types of walk-behind mowers are available including the mulcher, side discharger and rear baggers which stores cut leaves and grass in a specific bag. This can be emptied out when full, manually. The engines start at around 3.5 horsepower and are never bigger than 7 horsepower – just enough to do the mowing job in your garden.

Depending on the model, grass can be thrown either on the left or right. Cut grass can be stored in the mulcher as a nutrient for the garden. Cut grass need not be thrown; it provides sufficient nutrients for the stimulated growth of healthy new grass. If you have one to five acres of land at your disposal, you can use walk behind mowers, and if you have land bigger than that then you will require riding mowers. Online resources help you choose the best one.
