Flowers And What They May Mean

Flowers have long been used as a means to brighten up a persons day or to help mark a certain occasions or time of year. However less people may be aware of meanings and symbolism that are linked to certain flowers and their colours. But a good example of this is the red rose which shows your love for someone at Valentines day.

In the world of flowers as gifts the idea of sending ones which are blue can be linked to trying to send a message of peace and sincerity. The colour blue is seen as having a calming influence so it has its place in being used to create this feeling in a room. The blue used for this is normally more subtle and is not a loud, strong blue colour which can be seen as overpowering.

Carnations are an extremely popular flower to send someone and within carnations there are slightly different meanings depending on the colours that you send. A white version is seen as signifying good luck and pure love while a dark red carnation shows a deep love and affection. Light red is used to point towards simple admiration of the person and pink has what may be the most powerful meaning which is that of a mothers love. This, as with many meanings and symbols behind flowers, comes from strong symbolism going back centuries.

If we quickly move to Asia and in particular China and Japan we can see that the chrysanthemum is a flower which plays an important part in their society. For Japan the chrysanthemum is seen as representing perfection. For the Chinese and Japanese it is the flower which is important more than the different colours that are available.

Daffodils are a very popular springtime flower both in the garden and in florists. It is no real surprise that the daffodil is seen as meaning regeneration and rebirth due to it being amongst the first signs that we have moved out of winter into spring. There are many myths around the world which are directly connected to the daffodil but all have the same rebirth idea.

Another flower which can have different meanings depending on the colour is the lily. A white lily is looked upon as meaning chastity and virtue while pink is seen as showing prosperity and wealth. You may see the lily at funerals as it is a popular flower to include due to the symbolism of it representing the persons soul now being innocent once again after death.

The final flower to mention here is the rose which we all see as showing love and devotion to a person. Red is the most famous colour thanks to Valentines day but other colours can mean different things. Innocence and humility is shown in a white rose but then friendship and joy is best suited for a yellow rose. Orange can be used for desire, pink for showing you appreciate someone and if it was love at first sight a purple rose is the one mostly used.

So this is just a few examples of how different flowers and different colours can be used to represent different things. It may indeed make you think a little bit more as you next get them for a certain person or certain time of year. However the most important thing over and above all of this is buying flowers which you know the person actually likes no matter what the meanings and symbolism behind them may be.

What You Should Know About Purchasing Flowers

Flowers are adored by most people for their beauty, aroma, and ability to add the finishing touches to a special occasion. However, they can also be an expensive treat. These flower buying tips can help you select the perfect blossoms that will not only last longer, but give you value for money.

Before making a call to your florist, decide on the type of flowers you want, or what you want your bouquet to symbolize. Many blossoms are known for their significant meanings and are often purchased to convey an emotion or message. For instance, some blooms are given as a symbol of love, while others are given in sympathy to the grieving. It is important to make sure you purchase the right type of flower.

It is essential to remember flowers are usually seasonal. This will have a bearing on your choice of blossom, as certain varieties may not be available. Some florists stock out of season blooms, but will charge extra due to the plant being either imported or grown in a greenhouse. Find out about seasonal blossoms before using them in your bouquet.

You may be restricted by a budget, but that does not mean your floral arrangement will be any less inspiring. Costs can be reduced by innovative additions, such as including luscious greenery in the arrangement. Adornments can also be added to continue the theme of the occasion throughout the floral display. Often simple arrangements are the best. When placing your order, tell the florist how much you wish to spend and ask which options are available to you.

Certain blossoms can prove expensive due to refrigeration and transportation expenses. This can impact the price you pay at the floral shop. Holiday periods can also increase the costs of floral bouquets. Check for suitable, less costly alternatives that convey the same symbolic meaning and look as striking as your original choice. Ask the florist for the price of each stem before making your final selection.

Decide if you want the florist to deliver the bouquet, or if you want to do it yourself. Delivery by the florist will add to expenses, but there are ways you can save. For example, you can opt for early delivery. However, you should make sure there will be someone on the other end to receive them.

If you decide to put your own bouquet together follow these useful tips to ensure the longevity of the flowers in your arrangement. Remember to check the stems. They should be freshly cut with white or green ends. Any split, dark or curled stems should be avoided and make sure you use clean, clear water.

If possible avoid buying flowers that have been stored outside for long periods, as they will have been exposed to the elements. This may affect their appearance and will reduce their life expectancy. By following these tips you will be able to purchase a beautiful and effective arrangement that will be appreciated and loved by the recipient.

Finding The Perfect Seasonal Flowers

Not sure how to say “I love you” to your sweetheart or “My condolences” to your business associate? Don’t speak a word. Instead, let flowers speak for you when you do not know what to say or how to say it best. Here are some pointers that can help you make a memorable arrangement for almost any occasion throughout the year.

Spring time brings the bulbs which bloom, the sturdy tulip, the delicate iris, the snowdrop, the grape hyacinth. To your spring flowers of white daisies and yellow gerberas, add a splash of color. Delicate alstroemeria can sit beside sturdy twigs of pussy willow to make for pretty bouquets to cheer up any room.

Summer colors are bold and flashy. They stand up and cheer. They are a riot of color and shape and scent. White and pink stargazer lilies make for a strong contrast against yellow spider mums. Bright blue and purple flowers jump into the mix in the form of irises or purple prairie tulips. For a touch of drama, add birds of paradise, maybe even some exotic orchid flowers or spicy ginger stems for a tropical touch.

The season of fall comes and with it a change of tone and color. Rusty browns, oranges, golds and yellow come forward. Sunflowers make their appearance, as do autumn daisies and orange lilies. Yellow roses sit side by side with peach colored alstroemeria blooms.

Winter is the time for snow, for green and white, and sometimes red. Bouquets this time of year are simple and elegant. Add hypericum berries to your white arrangement for a touch of wintry color, or some frosted pine cones and some baby’s breath to your arrangement of white spider mums and cream colored roses and holiday greens. For a festive touch, add a curl of ribbon.

Special occasions occur year round. No matter what your special occasion, flowers can be the perfect way to recognize a special day. Send flowers to extend your congratulations to the new graduate. Send flowers to wish your dear friend good health and speedy recovery. Wish your colleague well on their retirement. Send your sympathy to your friend who lost their partner.

When holidays roll around, send your family a floral arrangement that reflects the special occasion. Fill their home with the smells and colors of home and your best wishes for the season whatever it may be. Whether it is Divali, Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, Easter or the New Year, there are floral arrangements available for every purpose, season and festival you can imagine.

Any day can be the perfect day for you to send flowers. You can be sure to make your loved one smile with a well selected floral arrangement that says you had it made just for them. With your personal touch, they will feel important, appreciated, and loved.

There is really no right or wrong time to send flowers to a loved one. Receiving flowers is always a welcome gesture and they can really make anyone feel happier. In Canada, however, we have certain traditions that people follow and we all seem to know when the best dates to send flowers.

As everyone knows, Valentine’s Day is the biggest day of the year for flower shops across Canada. Despite being expensive, many people still opt for the traditional bouquet of roses. But a bouquet of roses is quite costly, running anywhere from fifty to a hundred dollars. But it is a very romantic gesture and has a long tradition. Sometimes people will select to go with one single rose, as that can be just as symbolic of your love as many roses can be.

The great thing about flowers is that you can send them across the country no matter where you are. If you want to surprise someone in one province, but live in another, all you have to do is go to your computer and look up the local flower shop in the city that your loved one lives. This gesture is both convenient and thoughtful. The person you send flowers to will know that you are thinking about them, and it can be a great and unexpected surprise.

Birthdays are another great day to send flowers. No matter what age someone is turning, people always love to know that they are being thought of. Sometimes people will send flowers to someone’s work place on their birthday as it truly gives an element of surprise. This is another great tradition in Canada. But there are no traditional flowers for birthdays. This is a chance for the sender to get really creative. They can send a bouquet of the receiver’s favorite flower, such as daisies or lilies. Or, with the help of your local florist, you can come up with something completely unique and original.

Another great day to send flowers is someone’s graduation day. It is a great way to say congratulations, especially if you cannot be there to help your loved one celebrate. And of course, flowers can be seen everywhere at traditional weddings in Canada. The bride and the bridesmaids usually all have a bouquet, and the flower girl often tosses flower pedals along the aisle.

When it comes to showing your sympathy for the loss of a family member or friend, sending flowers is a great way to show you care, even if you can be there to show your support. People often will pool their money together to provide a beautiful arrangement that will stand to demonstrate the sympathy of an entire group. Usually a bouquet like this will come from a group of friends, distant family members, or coworkers.

Regardless of the occasion, there is never a bad time to send flowers. Whether you are wishing someone a happy birthday, or sending your sympathies, sending flowers is the best way to show you care.
