In this age of environmental issues, it is good to design and build an eco friendly house. It is made to be in tune with its occupants, nature, environment and the ecosystem. While designing, keep in mind the climate, prevalent building practices and material availability.
Orientation is the very basic but extremely important factor. Proper orientation of a house is often overlooked and ignored during the design phase of the project. Site specific planning is very crucial to build up a nature friendly house.
Light is an energy-producing element in the house. Take advantage of the sunlight as much as possible. Clearstory windows are the best way to achieve this goal and also help in naturally siphoning heat out of the space. It also saves on the electricity bills.
For areas with drought problem, provide a thicker layer of topsoil so that lawn requires less water in summer season and water is conserved during drought period. Design of the building should itself be as such that greenery should itself flow into your house.
As far as possible, try avoiding glossy or high sheen paints on the exterior walls. In the interior walls, it is suggested to use low VOC (volatile organic compound) latex paints. It is good to be as natural as you can.
A windowless bathroom is a most appropriate place for the generation of internal moisture. Installing an external ventilating exhaust fan there will help present mold and mildew growth. Providing cross ventilation in the home is also good to keep the air fresh.
One of the most efficient ways to make your house go green is a roof garden. You can grow various plants at your roof. Such a roof has many environmental benefits like removing CO2 from the atmosphere, helping to support local wildlife, as well as providing additional insulation for the building itself.
Above written were some of the few suggestions that will be of great help in providing you an environment friendly house. It affects the environment in a good way. It adds to the aesthetic value of your home and reduces the energy bills also.

Choosing bathroom tile may not seem like an exciting or life-altering decision. However, real estate insiders all agree that there are two rooms in a house that can gain a homeowner a positive return on investment: bathrooms and kitchens.
Therefore, it may not seem like choosing a bathroom tile is all that important but for many prospective home buyers, the quality of the bathroom tile could put your home over the top. There are several options that one can choose for tiling their bathrooms and we will discuss them all here.
One of the popular choice among homeowners is Ceramic Tiles. They are economical and flexible. Maintenance of ceramic tiles is very easy and they are also cost effective. But it is observed that ceramic tiles are slippery and many homeowners don’t consider it suitable for bathroom.
Granite tiles are becoming very popular because of the prestige that is attached to granite. However, granite tiles are more than just an expensive stone. They are actually quite practical because they are scratch resistant and non-porous. Even though these stones are scratch resistant, homeowners should know that they should treat granite with a sealer at least once a year.
Limestone tiles or sandstone tiles are also very popular among homeowners. They are very beautiful like granite tiles but can easily get stained. Due to this fact they are not considered very practical. Also like granite, you need to seal them at least once a year.
Also, cleaning stone tiles like limestone or sandstone can be difficult because acidic cleaners should not be used on these tiles. However, most cleaners have some acidic content. Homeowners should know how to properly maintain stone tiles before choosing to install such tiles.
If homeowners want to have shiny finish then they can go with porcelain tiles. It is quite easy to maintain porcelain tiles. However, their slippery natures makes them a dangerous choice for our bathrooms and due to that many homeowners don’t prefer to have them in their bathroom.
Overall, choosing a bathroom tile can seem like an inconsequential process. However, understanding the different options you may have can be an invaluable resource in choosing the right bathroom tile. These are four options that homeowners may choose and each has its positive aspects and negative aspects.

It is not possible to do variations in size of your bathroom, however, changes can be done for creating more space and develop a more comfortable look. For instance, if you will eliminating the tub and will choose shower then a considerable space can be saved in your bathroom.
By having a shower with a sliding door and towel hanger, your bathroom can be made very elegant. Also comparatively it will have more open space than a conventional shower that has a curtain. By having a glass shower, you can give your old and outdated bathroom a new and modern look.
Compact toilets are another way to save space. While large enough to use comfortably many of these compact toilets have lower back tanks that makes those over the toilet shelving areas even more useful.
There are even models where the tank fits into the wall, allowing you to move the stool further back and save floor space. Choosing space saving sinks is also important when furnishing a small bathroom.
Wall mounted sinks don’t offer anything in the way of storage, but they do free up floor space giving your room a more open look and feel. For those of you who need storage space a new vessel sink design may be the right choice.
These sinks come in different sizes and choosing one with open shelves will keep your room looking spacious while accommodating towels and other things you need to store. The best thing you can do before purchasing any new piece of bathroom furniture is to plan out your bathroom in advance.

Service charges of different electricians are different. When any electrician visit your house for checking any problem then keep it in mind that he can charge you in between $30-85 ($60 average). However, if his work doesn’t get over in 30-60 minutes then he might charge you on per hour basis.
The general cost for work done by an electrician is $40-$85 per hour with most rates hovering around the average of $60-$68 (usually charged by the quarter hour). This price may be slightly higher if its a small electrical job and lower if it’s a bigger job.
Some electricians will charge flat rates for specific jobs. For example: for General Maintenance, an electrician can charge you around $75-125, for installing new power point- around $75 per power point (price could vary depending on access to the location), new light fitting- same as installation of a power point, installation of safety switch – $265-$370.
It is not easy to have an estimate of total rewiring cost of a house but as per a rough estimate, you might need to pay around $4000 for this. For installation of a new phone point, you would require to spend $50-$75 and a fox-tel connection will cost you in between $100-200.
When an electrician finishes his job then all the wires and connections touched by him should be safe to use. Homes having new wires installed are less likely to get any damage but homeowners who are still using old wiring are at risk of getting any damage or wear and tear in their wiring.
You will also find the fluctuation in price if an electrician has to use scaffolding (rare) or dig up wires. You can also get all wires and consumable materials from your electrician, sometimes itemized, sometimes included in a standard job price.
For the repair process, an electrician can also use his own light fittings, appliances, power points or switches etc. If the electrician will offer you these things at market price then you can accept his offer.
However, for getting big appliances, make a proper comparison between the appliances available in market and appliance offered by electrician. Check that the appliance that is offered by the electrician has the same feature as you want or not. Also compare the prices.
Which Lighting Style Will Be Good For You ?

We use to like or dislike a particular room or interior on the basis on lighting in the room because proper lighting is very essential in beautifying a particular room. With a successful and pleasant lighting, you can highlight the key features of the room and can also eliminate the shadows and hot spots.
With GENERAL or AMBIENT LIGHTING, you can make a room or space comfortable and safer to use for the required purpose. A popular source of general lighting is recessed light. You can get hundreds of styles and colors for the visible portion of the recessed light fixture in order to control the spreading of light.
TASK LIGHTING is a high level light that is used particularly in work areas such as kitchen islands, counter tops and desks. Using recessed, track or pendant fixtures, you can direct additional lights to these areas. Keep one thing in mind that the halogen or xenon lighting fixtures used for track or under-cabinets have very low voltage and a transformer is needed to reduce the voltage from 120 volt to 12 volt.
To be effective, accent lighting should be approximately four times more than the level of ambient light in an area. Focusing light on an “accented object” or “area” draws attention to a picture, vase or other focal point. Here again, halogen lighting type fixtures provide a whiter, brighter appearance than standard incandescent or fluorescent type fixtures.
With WALL WASHING (a type of Accent Lighting) an area can be uniformly illuminated. Here reflected light can be used to create ambient light in the remaining portion of the room and will make the room pleasing and restful.
WALL GRAZING is completely different from Wall Washing as it creates a dramatic highlight and shadow effect on surfaces. You need to put ceiling light fixtures for Wall Grazing closer to the wall than Wall Washing so that the three-dimensional effect can be highlighted.
DISPLAY LIGHTING generally has small low voltage lighting fixtures that are used to illuminate cabinets displaying keepsakes, ornaments, dinnerware etc. Under-cabinet fixtures are also considered suitable for this purpose. COVE LIGHTING is used to illuminate the perimeter of the room where walls meet the ceiling so it provides your room a bigger appearance.
With proper lighting, you can really change the look of any room. Before making the selection, you can check the sample display of various lighting systems and fixtures on any home improvement store.

The most common roofing problems can be roof leaks, moisture, wind uplift resistance, poor installation, unsatisfactory workmanship, water pools, safety, improper repair and lack of maintenance. To find out different roofing problems, we need to be cautious about our roofs.
The problem becomes easy to solve if it has occurred in past also and the homeowner is familiar with the problem. If you will do semi-annual inspections then you can prevent many of your roof problems.
The most important role of roof is to protect us from wind, heavy rain, snow and any other natural disasters. So if you want to make your roof long lasting then do regular inspection of your roof.
You need to determine 3 things while inspecting your roof. First of all determine if your roofing system is performing according to its intended function. Through this, it would be easier for us to address the concerns of a professional maintenance roofer.
In case you find any of the above mentioned problems in your roof then you should immediately call a professional roofer to get the problem solved. By hiring an expert and qualified roofer, you can be sure that your entire roofing problem will be solved.
Early problem detection makes repair manageable before they become serious. This is the only way to maximize the service of the roof’s life. That is why roof maintenance is really important.
In case the roofing problem is quite big or you do not have much knowledge of roofing then you should hire an expert to solve the problem. Never try to solve the problem on your own in such cases as you might make the problem more worst. Always keep in mind that cost of simple repair is nothing as compared to replacing the whole roof.
How Distillation Purify Water ?

How pure is your distilled water? The answer depends on your definition of purity. A 100% pure water solution would be free of anything that is not H20, whether those things are good or bad for your health.
Water that is found naturally on this planet also contains some minerals inside it. These minerals are responsible for making you healthy and are good for your health. Inside your body, these minerals are termed as electrolytes. The two commonly occurring minerals in your water are sodium and potassium.
The distillation process will remove dissolved minerals and anything that has boiling point higher than water. Some chemicals like chlorine and its byproducts cannot be removed with distillation alone. To completely remove chlorine from the water additional steps would have to be taken.
When you need to have pure water for drinking purpose then that water should not contain any chemical contaminants except the trace minerals. Through distillation process, you use to get a completely different result. There is no use of pure water that does not have trace minerals. However, you can use such water in certain industrial settings and other applications.
To maintain the purity of your distilled water, it is very essential to have a clean reservoir. A reservoir that is not sterilized can add bacteria to the water. Along with this, you also need to keep an eye on the apparatus and it should be cleaned thoroughly and frequently otherwise scales will affect the water’s purity.
Using deionization method, you can remove all the minerals from the water including bromide and chloride to a certain degree. It will produce pure water for applications that require de-mineralized water. However, bacteria or harmful viruses can not be removed by this method.
One more method for reducing mineral content from water is reverse osmosis and use of chemical softeners. However, these methods are not used for cleaning drinking water. For purifying your drinking water, you need to use multi-stage purifier. In these purifiers, granular carbon and other media is used to remove all the chemicals and metals like lead.
There are companies that claim to provide drinking water that is ultra pure, but you won’t be able to tell if the water is free of E-coli, cysts, chemicals and other contaminants unless you know their method of purification.
