The Nespresso CitiZ – Your Next Espresso Machine?

The Nespresso CitiZ makes surprisingly good coffee. I say surprising because this machine uses coffee capsules instead of fresh ground coffee. Nestle, the manufacturer, offers a nice variety of flavors to choose from so you are sure to find something you like. It’s quick and easy to use too.
The machine is nice and compact, and takes up a little less room on your counter top than a typical drip coffee maker. It’s great for small apartments and tight kitchens. I think it has a nice modern and elegant style that will complement most kitchens.
It couldn’t be more simple to operate. Once you fill up the water tank you just hit the switch and in about two minutes the machine is warmed up and ready. To make your espresso, just pop the top and drop in an espresso pod. When you close the lid it pierces the capsule. Then, you press a button for a “long” or “short” shot and your done.
This machine has a built in milk frother, also known as an aeroccino. You can purchase it separated from the machine if you like, but I think this is one of the great features of this espresso maker. It’s really quick and easy to use and does a very nice job of it. You just pour some milk in the tank and press a button.
The pods or espresso capsules come sealed with perfectly ground coffee. The tins are recyclable aluminum and lined with a film to prevent the coffee from contact the metal directly. In one of the few drawbacks, the coffee capsules are only available from one source, the Nespresso Club on the company website.
It all cleans up like a breeze. The little Nespresso coffee pellets are encapsulated, pierced and extracted inside, then ejected down into a little container that holds around 8 pellets. You just pull it out and throw them away. From start to finish, you can warm up the machine, froth the milk, make two shots of espresso, and rinse out the frother in about five or six minutes.
This is great machine and I would highly recommend it. If you want great espresso and you want it quick with no fuss, it’s hard to beat the Nespresso CitiZ.
