For supplying hot water in your home, different models are designed having their own good points and bad points. You need to check out various things before purchasing a heater such as your home’s size, members in your family, capacity of any other water heater present in your home and fuel cost in your area. Above all you can have a talk with hot water contractor regarding this.

Tankless water heating system is one of the cheapest systems in terms of both installation and operation. Since these systems heat water on the spot, therefore, the water flows at a slow rate. Slow flow rate means the temperature of water can fluctuate during use. Like if you are in the shower and someone else flushes the toilet then water in the shower can suddenly jump to an uncomfortable or dangerous level.

To make tankless water heaters more user friendly, hot water booster came in market. They increase the efficiency of heating system but have little high cost. Its installation is also typical for which you need to call an expert. If not installed properly, its performance may go down. But it does not remove the problem of fluctuation in water temperature completely.

Water heaters having hot water storing tank are also popular. These water heaters were used earlier or when tankless water heater turns out to be inefficient. It is better to install heaters having storing tank along with your old water heater as it will save money for you. Otherwise, a new heater will cost you more and also its installation as you need an electrician for installing it.

In place of a tankless water heating system, a gas, oil, or electric water heater can also be useful. These systems normally require less maintenance and are cheap depending on fuel availability. Before purchasing these heaters, confirm the feasibility of these systems in your area from a hot water contractor.

Hot water tank insulation is a great way to reduce the energy consumption of your hot water tank. By spending a negligible price in purchasing the insulator, you can cut your heating cost by around 10%. An insulation jacket is wrapped around your hot water tank to produce the necessary insulation.

Thermostat should never be covered and at most a temperature of 130 degrees should be maintained to prevent any risk on wirings. If you will insulate the pipes then also a lot of energy will be saved and you will get hot water for long duration.

Installing the insulation is simple for an electric heater water tank. But if you have a gas or oil-fueled tank then you should hire a professional to ensure safe installation of the insulation jacket.
