Bamboo is a tough and lasting fencing material. Split bamboo is no exception. Split bamboo fencing is more often used in warm, temperate temperatures and is the preferred material in tropical or desert climates.

If you decide to use split bamboo fencing, your fence will be very striking in appearance. If there is a downside to split bamboo, it is that it doesn’t stand up to climate conditions for nearly as long as a fence made out of regular solid bamboo.

Split bamboo fencing differs from regular bamboo fencing materials. Split bamboo is made out of the outer surface of bamboo shoots and is tied together using a galvanized type wire. Regular bamboo is a solid piece. You can often buy split bamboo in rolls to use in constructing a fence.

Split bamboo is often used to make bamboo fencing panels. Here’s how they are made. When making a panel, the split bamboo poles are usually connected together with between 6 and 8 rows of different kinds of wire.

Galvanized wire goes along the top and bottom of poles. This is to make the panels solid. In the middle, more wire is used. Often this wire is rubber coated so the fence has some flexibility when the bamboo fencing rolls panels are added.

Once assembled, the split bamboo fencing panels are connected to wood posts. When the posts have been set in the ground, your fence is almost finished.

One important point to remember is that you have to use a frame made with wood posts that will be set into the ground. Don’t allow the bamboo part of the fence to touch the ground, as it will not last as long when this happens. In order for your fence to reach right to the ground, use wood to frame in the bottom portion of the panels.

Another way to make use of split bamboo fencing is to attach it to an outside wall and create an attractive focal point for your porch or patio. It can also be easily attached to an existing fence.

For wooden fences, split bamboo works great because it will lay flat against the wood. Then it’s a simple matter to attach it to the top of the fence using heavy duty stainless steel staples. You can anchor it in place by also attaching it to the middle and bottoms of your fence. If the bamboo panel is too long, it can easily be cut to fit.

Chain link is even easier. If you are using rolled bamboo panels, you can wrap the roll around it or drape it over the top. Attach to the chain link using heavy duty but flexible steel wire placed at regular intervals.

You may want to consider using split bamboo fencing to create a truly unique look for your patio or backyard.
